Our club started in September this year with a visit from

Need to Read Book Club founder, Emily Conrad.

The October Meeting, was a club highlight!

We read Wringer, by Jerry Spinelli and welcomed

guest speaker, Frank McDonough, who races pigeons. His willingness to share his pigeons helped us appreciate and apply the dilemma of the main character in the book.

At the end of his visit, Mr. McDonough "let his pigeons go."

He said the pigeons would beat him home. AMAZING!

The following are some of our thoughts

about "Reading for Others"

and our visit to the Children's Shelter:

"It was amazing to pick books for the kids and then see the

smiles on their faces when they picked books for themselves.

It made me so happy to give to them."   -Taylor

"I love to read, but this time I wasn't reading for me.

This whole service project was for them."  -Allison

"It made me really happy and really sad at the same time.

I was sad because the situation of the kids,

but happy that I could make a difference."  -Ashley

"The kids were so grateful to have new books.

When they came into the room, they went straight to the books.

I could tell they were lonely, but we read and played together.

They didn't hold anything back and at least for a little while,

all the kids seemed happy and knew they mattered."  -Tristen
