The Spartanburg Founding Chapter
was the first chapter of
the
Need to Read Book Club, founded in 2004 by 7th
grader,
Emily
Conrad, at the Spartanburg Day School.
We
have established partnerships with many
community
organizations including the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen,
Spartanburg Children Shelter, Boys and Girls Club of
the Upstate, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, and
Chick-fil-A raising thousands of dollars to buy and
distribute thousands of
books
to at-risk children.
The
Spartanburg Founding Chapter is looking for a home
and
is open to all Spartanburg kids, 7th -10th grades.

NEED TO READ BOOK CLUB
Chapter One:
Spartanburg Founding Chapter
A
highlight of Summer 2007 for the Founding
Chapter was the performance of Shel
Silverstein's beloved
children's
classic, The Giving Tree
along
with young, excited Boys & Girls
Club kids.
Through
our "Giving Tree"
fundraiser
at
Chick-fil-A Hillcrest, we raised nearly
$500 to buy
new
books for the Boys & Girls Club
summer campers
at
Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
(Note:
Please be patient.
It
may take a couple of mintues for pictures
in the slideshows to download.)
